Just watched Senegal's 2-2 draw with Tunisia. Diomansy Kamara did well - scored off a corner, and set up a couple of near-misses. He played an attacking midfield role, drifted to both wings, made some passes, and even got a few tackles in (he actually injured a Tunisia player toward the end). I found it interesting that the back of his #15 shirt simply read "Diomansy". The graphics on the video feed were also showing his first name only. Is he trying to be Brazilian? Or is he trying to be like Madonna or Prince? Who knows, but it gave me a chuckle. Here's hoping that this tournament gives him a confidence boost for the stretch run. I know he hasn't been the goal scoring machine we had hoped for, but if he can help us stay up, all will be forgiven.
From the "lazily making up rumors" department: Awhile back, I mentioned another Senegal player player by the name of Moustapha Byal Sall. He plays a defensive midfield, but also got on the scoresheet today. Inter Milan were reportedly tracking him...Inter...Hodgson...you know the rest. He's big, strong, and breaks up attacks. Could have been a good fit for us, but we've signed a solid player in Leon Andreasen, so it's all moot now.
Speaking of Andreasen, I have a Werder Bremen match recorded that I've been meaning to watch. I'm anxious to get a better idea of what he's all about, so I'll have to sit down and watch tonight.
Is it just something to do
Is it just something to do with Senegal having a lot of Kamara's. Though Henri Camara is the only one that springs to my mind right now!
Just noticed this on his
Just noticed this on his wikipedia entry:
When Kamara was born, his birth certificate had a typing error that spelled his last name Kamara, instead of Camara which is a holy name in Senegal.
Seems like something that would be easy enough to correct, but who knows.
